TOPIC: A&S 50 Challenge

A&S 50 Challenge 2 years, 8 months ago #107

Just figured I would go ahead and start a thread for this...I do believe many have already heard of it and are actively working towards their challenges (I know I have). But for those that haven't heard,
The A&S 50 Challenge involves doing 50 things in the Arts and Sciences between May 1st AS 42/2007 and May 1st AS 50/2015, in honor of the SCA's 50th Birthday..

You can read more on it at:
A&S 50 Challenge

We can discuss our challenges with each other here as well as help those in any way we can to achieve their goals...

I am currently working on my Breadth Challenge..And am working on learning 50 new "period" things..I am still new to the SCA so it is all a learning process from here and so far I have been having a blast...I'm sure you'll see the blog posts of my journey to completion...And well nice ta meet you all...

I have just recently joined the Challenge. I started with the Depth Challenge and decided to sew 50 garments for myself or others. However, I've discovered that's too easy (I already have 19 done), so I've added to it. I want to complete 50 *outfits*. That will actually take more time and effort.

In addition to that, I want to do the Persona Challenge and really round out my persona. I'll do some research into time period and history and I'm going to (finally) get my name registered, but mainly I want to get my garb "updated" and appropriate for my persona.

Re: A&S 50 Challenge 2 years, 8 months ago #115

Yeah I am considering also trying to do the Depth Challenge as well with making 50 pieces of garb...I am so new to sewing that I am going to try different outfits or style of dresses...
For far I have made 3 women's T-tunic
3 men's T-tunic
Viking Apron Dress
Bodice
Gathered Skirt
Front Laced Kirtle (sorta)
Chemise...

Course I dont have very good pictures to post to my blog yet..Must wait till its all shipped to me from WA...

As for the persona challenge I am still debating if I will do that one...I find it difficult to even know where to begin in deveopling my persona...I have the name I like and if that passes submission then I will go from there...

I've never heard of the A&S50 Challenge but it sounds like fun and I've decided to get involved with the Depth Challenge in a C&I context. I guess I need to figure out how to get myself started.

Ah gotcha...I would love to learn a bit about that too and try my hand at making a scroll but I am really bad at drawing...

You don't really have to be able to draw. Start with simple geometrics. If you can draw a straight line (even using a ruler!) there are a lot of things you can do with that. You can move up from there as you get more comfortable with it.

Also, I've seen some people use a light box and royalty free clip art books. Mix and match different elements of the clip art, then using the light box trace them onto your scroll. After that its just a matter of painting it.

that sounds way easier then I thought...i can trace...just no freehand....and who doesn't love to color...

Here is my plan for the 50:
3/50 Digital Heraldic Devices 2/50 Rattan Weapons 0/50 Fletched Arrows

Good luck to you all!

I have been working on this for a bit, I choose the New Period things, because I have been involved with the SCA for many years, and I felt I was stagnant!

So I am working on tons of new projects in Food/Cuisine, Woodworking, Garb making, well all sorts of things!
