I joined the SCA nearly two years ago. At 33 years old, I wish I had found the Society 15 years ago. I jumped in headlong, finally finding a place where my diverse interests all finally worked together. Now instead of dividing my time up, I could work on many projects, and have them all be unified in the goal of making my game better. Granted it was, and still is somewhat overwhelming the amount I COULD choose to do, and at first I tried everything; bits of leather, unfinished chainmail, bad tablet weaving and bits of poorly dyed cloth littered my spare bedroom for months. Now, I am focusing on how to do fewer things with more skill.
I recently won the A&S Championship in my Shire. (Granted I was the only entrant but I try not to let that detract from my sense of accomplishment.) Now I plan to focus on developing my persona, getting more involved in the Shire, building my fighting skils and planning out where I want my game to go.
I'll keep you posted.
