A History Geek's Dream Come True

I am a major History geek!

I love Classical and Medieval History, as well as some Victorian History! But my passion will always be Tudor and Elizabethan History, and stories of the people and Court of King Henry VIII, and his daughter Queen Elizabeth I.

I would pretty much do anything (shy of selling my kids) to have the chance to go back in time to experience the events and people of that time! For a long time I thought this will probably only exist in my imagination through the pages of books and words of historians.

For some reason it never occured to me to look into re-enactment groups who have a passion for everything Medieval and Renaissance. It was at a Colonial Encampment event my family and I went to that this idea popped into my head! That thought led me to Google, and Google let me to the SCA and the local Shire in my area!

I am brand new to the SCA and couldn't be more excited! I am ready to jump in and enjoy the Current Middle Ages!

As for my persona, Elizabeth Blackwell, what I know now of her is that she is a Lady in Waiting to Queen Anne Boleyn. She loves the art of dance, and enjoys sewing as well as embroidery.

Beyond that, I am taking slow paces as to developing her story and personality! I signed up for the Arts & Sciences AS50 Challenge to do the Persona Challenge in order to help me further develop my persona, and gain skills she would have (and that I always dreamed of re-enacting!).

So the first skill I am learning and researching is Embroidery! Right now, specifically Blackwork (which is appropriate of England in the 16th Century).

Here is my first attempt at Blackwork (on a piece of Aida 18 cloth):

I have to admit I am quite proud of myself! I have a long way to go, but LOOK - I've recreated Blackwork Embroidery just like they did back in Tudor England! WOOHOO!

This is how I know I am a History Geek - when I get so excited and giddy over making something someone back then, say like Anne Boleyn (whom I adore!) or Elizabeth I would have made as well (kinda.. well.,. you know!).

This is why I am a self porclaimed History Geek - and I love it!

This blog is to document my journey through the SCA as a newbie, hopefully growing into a more experienced member as time passes by! So please join me as I go through what I am sure will be an adventoures path in the Knowne World!

Enjoy!

(and please be kind!)
