My dream began 29 years ago, I was watching a show called "Real People" and was facinated by the people dressed in Viking Gear. My friends asked around but without the internet, this was the Fat Mac era, and even though we were all at Universities, none of us had heard of the SCA. Move 3 years and one of my friends wirtes to me that he found the SCA, he was then living in Sunnyvale, CA and was going to San Jose State. We made plans to go to an event, but since my time was precious we made... |

As one might find while reading over my previous posts, there is a certain theme across all of them, wherein you will find a great number of people in the Society who are absolutely convinced that they are better than you are, those who will work feverishly towards stepping on the heads of everyone around them until they get their name on a fancy piece of paper, then immediately drop off the face of the planet, claiming their esteem in regards to that specific little gem for the rest of their... |

Good day all gentles,
First let me say that I was overwhelmed by the response to my first entry. It makes it so much easier to write when you have people who are reading.
Now onward to part 2…..
The Value of Talking
When I decided I was going to play this game, I decided I would play this game the way I do everything: all-in. I didn’t want to start out being the meek timid guy in the corner, that’s not my personality. I decided that I would help wherever I could whenever I... |

October....finally!
I immensely enjoyed all the responses from my last posting. I love to hear other's thoughts and feelings on issues of importance or unimportance! The fall has kicked off in my area with a bit of chilly weather which I am enjoying immensely. The past week has been spent preparing for harvest festivals and the like and the leaves are starting to change a lovely color.
I had planted a garden this year, and my son and I cultivated typical crops from the 15th century... |

One of my dreams when it comes to my love for Renaissance is to learn how to dance Renaissance Dances. Last Friday was my first Renaissance Dance with the Shire and it was absolutely fantastic!
I had a great time undertaking a goal I've had for a while - to eventually master the art of Renaissance Dance (which is something my Persona will master), and the overall experience (which was also my very first SCA activity) was a lot of fun!
The Shire members I met were very welcoming and helpful... |

Good day all gentles,
When I first entered the game two years ago, the first thing I was told was that I would have to be putting a lot of money into it to play the game the way it should be played-- This frightened me. At the time I was a 23 year old college student with a seasonal job (now I am a 25 year old college student with a seasonal job AND a wedding to pay for) and thought to myself, self I thought there's no way I can take on this hobby, I don't have enough money for ramen on a... |

I am a major History geek!
I love Classical and Medieval History, as well as some Victorian History! But my passion will always be Tudor and Elizabethan History, and stories of the people and Court of King Henry VIII, and his daughter Queen Elizabeth I.
I would pretty much do anything (shy of selling my kids) to have the chance to go back in time to experience the events and people of that time! For a long time I thought this will probably only exist in my imagination through the pages of... |

Well met, good gentles of the Knowne World! I am Kanna al Tanmerc'h, and I come to you from the Barony of al-Barran in the mighty Kingdom of the Outlands. I am a bard; I love to tell a good tale, and I hope that whosoever comes by my ramblings on this site enjoys hearing one. And in this context, I hope my tales are of a practical, useful bent.
I'll begin with this fact: I am a newcomer. Indeed, I am a newcomer who has more or less jumped into the game feet-first, and I've no... |

I decided to blog on this site for a number of reasons. The most obvious being a forum for insight of perception, but also to examine the different philosophies that are prevalent in the various SCA organizations. My goal is to incite debate, opinion and emotion in an appropriate venue so that greater understanding can be had by all. I am in no way a psychologist, confessor or judge and jury in way.
It may be amusing, it may be frustrating but it is what it is. Nationally and... |
