Ok wow has this dress been a learning experience. We last left off with me crumpling it up and throwing a fit.
I took a break from working on it and then took it to the weekly Shire sewing night to get the advice from the more seasoned sewers in our group. I pointed out the things I was having issues with and they helped me work through the issues and find ways to get by with the dress.
We managed in adding a few darts in the back and shoulders so that the dress fits her now and as she grows we can remove the darts and let the dress out so she can use it for a few years. I did the same with the hem.
I also did not like the way the front gathers looked so I added some beaded trim to the stitched to hide the horrible gather job.
I added the zipper and the lace to the neck and then added all the trim to the dress. I finished it off by adding a few small flowers to the front neckline.
The only thing left to do is finish the inside seams with a zig zag stitch as soon as I get the machine back from repair.
I worked all morning to get the trim added so the dress would be finished before she got home from school and had it hanging near the fireplace when she came in.
I told her it was finished and had her try it on...She loved it so much she started twirling around the house giggling...
Will I do another dress like this? Heck yes! just not sure how soon...
Now to figure out the next sewing project...I have fabric for another sideless surrcoat as well as fabric for a doublet...Would also like to get some rapier hoods and a shirt done this winter...
For now I am working on a Cordial. Look for that blog later this week.
But for now here are the pictures of the finished dress...
Thanks for reading.
